The opening of rural areas to renew rural generations, jobs and farms
The challenge of rural population decline and need for rural communities to become more attractive places to live and work is a concern for rural people and policymakers alike. It is discussed in policy statements such as the 2016 Cork 2.0 Declaration ‘A Better Life in Rural Areas’ and the 2018 OECD Edinburgh Policy Statement on Enhancing Rural Innovation.

The RURALIZATION ‘family’ has been working for a year for boosting EU rural development. In this period we have carried out diverse activities to develop new knowledge and deepen existing one and support policy making in addressing the challenge of rural decline. In particular, we seek to improve the understanding of rural regeneration, make rural dreams for new rural generations a reality and to define innovative instruments and strategies to facilitate the entry of newcomers in agriculture.
